He is most commonly seen dressed in black suits that can obviously be seen as highly priced tailored suits and fine black top hats and the occasional walking cane. There is not quite anything frail or elderly about this man besides the graying of his hair and some wrinkling. If it had not been for all the money in his pockets, he could even be mistaken for floating.

Personality: Monty is really a loving and kind husband. He is a good man with a relatively good heart and continuously keeps a healthy higher status in the community and keep the money in his pockets. Not to say that he is actually greedy, however, he has one major flaw that makes him look like such. He refuses to give anything to those less fortunate than himself, which most surely would see as another black mark against the older man. However, he believes that they can get out of their own troubles if they worked hard enough and really wanted to get out of poverty, they would do it. He believes this because of the situation he lived in with his own family.
Montgomery is also seen as more of a scrooge because not only does he not donate to the poor but he is also a sort of harsh landlord. He allows one payment to be late but only once then never again, no matter the person or family's situations. They are to all be sent fully and on time and he does make sure of it without a doubt and isn't afraid or guilty of kicking people out. This also makes him an avid working man which means that when he is home, he is almost always working. In fact, if he wasn't working he was either at the opera or throwing a party. Not to say he doesn't make time to read either since he does read and write quite frequently as well.
Eighty percent of the time, he is seen as an uptight, uncaring, self centered man when he really is none of this. He is tender towards his wife and much more loose around his friends and of course at parties. In fact, inside, Montgomery can be a rather depressing man. He often has nightmares, almost never any pleasant dreams, haunted by his past and his unconscious being guilty of the possible lives he could have destroyed or could have tried to help, though he of course completely dismisses it when he wakes up. The only things that may keep his mind off of the depression is Giselle, work, and parties. And books don't normally help either.
There is also one thing he could always get lost in when it seems that all else is failing, and that is the opera. If it hadn't been the ability to go to the opera, he could have been a drunken man, going to a bar each night instead of an opera house. And while he still enjoys the occasional drink, he prefers to spend a good deal of time listening and watching the operas and ballets at the Opera Garnier. He often takes his wife and meets a great deal of people there, at least briefly, and enjoys making some conversation with some of them. With his secret dream of being an opera singer, it's no wonder that his second home is quite nearly the Opera Garnier.

Biography:
It was October tenth, eighteen twenty two when Montgomery Grant was born in Cheshire, England. He was the youngest of the two brothers, and was in a very poor family who lived on the streets and fed off of scraps. His father had lost his job when his older brother was born three years before him. It was the family against the world for the most part, having to fend for themselves and live off of the little they could scrape up, not being able to even afford a roof over their heads. This bothered Montgomery beyond all belief because he grew up to see those wealthy people walking around without a seemingly care in the world, not having to worry about starvation or freezing to death.
Montgomery began to pester his father greatly about this when he was around seven. Why didn't his father try to work harder, find more things to do, clean up his appearance a little to look more presentable, more employee worthy. For a little while, Abott put up with it because he could understand his son being tired of living the poor lifestyle they were living. But then the arguments would get worse and worse when Montgomery was absolutely fed up by their lack of trying. In his eyes, he saw their starvation as a result to not trying more or hard enough, giving up to quickly and not going anywhere. And ultimately, he just felt absolutely useless in the state he was in and he had to stop it, stop feeling helpless and pitiful.
The young boy was constantly upset, anger stricken and weak with starvation always at the pit of his stomach. This worried his sick mother, making her feel just as helpless as he did and did what she could to help him. She decided that with the basic knowledge of reading and writing she had, she would teach the two boys and perhaps they could fill their heads with more dreams of whisking away captured princesses from evil dragons than the nightmares of everyday life that threatened to never let them wake after they have fallen asleep. While Montgomery ate it up, his older brother didn't care for reading at all and decided it was much more fun to play with the other dangerous children their age. When Monty asked where his mother had learned, she would just say her father had once been a librarian. Whenever she spoke of her parents or of such another time, there was always such a warm, and yet distant look in her eyes and in her smile.
When Monty was twelve, his brother was caught and thrown into an orphanage, their parents having no money or any sort of capability to get him out. With this, he no longer enjoyed reading as much as he once did and the hunger for change (in both meanings) grew strongly, eating up his emotions and made him grow up that much faster than he should. That was until his mother then found out what a love of music her son secretly had. Montgomery had become fond with the world of music, particularly opera, from listening to people on the stages and listening to the distant applause that could one day be directed to him. So, with the horrid chest cold that never went away that his mother had, she would sing for him and ask him to sing for her. This sparked a new hope in the boy and he suddenly threw himself into learning the art, finally having something that could distract him again from the things that turned the sky gray. However, this did not last particularly long either because when he tried to sing to his father, the man smashed his dreams mercilessly and told the boy that he had the voice of a rat and would toss him into the sewer if he continued.
This threat was as empty as the family's stomachs but it still shook and angered Montgomery so. With his mind now more distant from opera, he decided to concentrate on just surviving the harsh streets he lived on while stealing only the occasional book now. Now not only did he have more intelligence than the many children who had no ability to read but now he was building the strength, speed, and stamina that would continue to keep him and his parents alive. He then turned seventeen and he decided that he hated being a petty thief and that he finally needed to progress and do something for himself. So, he broke into a house and took a bath and dressed in a man's moderately nice clothing, being caught in the middle by a young girl who screamed for her papa and nearly bashed his head in but luckily Montgomery took what he could and ran as fast as his legs could carry him. When he had stolen good clothes, though nothing fancy enough to be highly recognizable or seem high class, he got his first job as a store clerk. He learned quickly and did his absolute best at all times, only ever breaking into places ever is to bathe himself, being almost caught on several occasions. It was his greatest accomplishment, when he received that first pay check, for he had not seen such a thing from living on the streets, at least among his family.
Montgomery's happiness was cut short however, when he had brought food in celebration for his parents but his father refused to let him or his wife eat any of it. Abbot had become a bitter and cold man, especially in these recent years towards his youngest son for doing something he was not able to do. Being the obnoxiously proud man he was, he told his son to not waste his money on them and take it somewhere else and not bother the couple anymore since he was doing so well for himself. So, brokenheartedly, he continued his job for another half a year before he took all the money he had saved up and went for London. He walked and was often beaten on the road by thugs, though he was lucky and strong enough to be able to keep some of his money. Sometimes he was taken in by strangers who let him sleep in their house for a night and then let him go on his way. Finally he did get to London where he wanted to get a proper education, now knowing the power of reading and writing. One of the teachers allowed to get him enrolled for free, or at least, almost free. The teacher would pay for the education as long as Montgomery worked for him, whether it was fixing his food or running out to get something for him. This also gave him a place to sleep and a place to eat. The teacher also had an old Great Dane that actually loved Monty more than his own master, sparking his love and interest in the dog breed. Unfortunately, the dog died the same year he graduated which hurt Montgomery more than it had the teacher.
Montgomery used all the rest of the money he had left from working odd jobs in London and had done some stealing to leave the house for a place more suitable for him... and that place just happened to be Paris, France. A place far enough where he would never be recognized, especially as a thief, where he would soon find his heart in, and most of all - he believed he wouldn't think of his family anymore. When he moved to France, he had absolutely no knowledge on how to speak French. Fortunately enough for him, a man who use to be a teacher had stumbled upon the young man in a pub and later had decided that he had potential. He taught him French and money skills, math, better reading and writing, and had even set him up with a small job with one of his old friends who was also a sort of mentor to Montgomery, teaching him what it was like to be a landlord. The already independent landlord gave Monty a small hand full of his lands for him to use till he had enough money to buy and rent out his own, which he eventually and successfully did. He learned a great deal from the two men and had grown into a strong, independent man. Wealthy enough that he could even marry without having to worry greatly about the status of the one he would marry. He was twenty eight when he had finally started up as his own business, becoming an official landlord. Just weeks after that, he had met a young woman named Giselle, who was just twenty two. At first, the two absolutely did not get along, having met in the park where she saw Montgomery refusing to give any money to a poor man which she then walked up and gave the man a few coins then got into a heated discussion about it with Monty.
Montgomery, of course, had always been bitter towards the poor, ever since his father telling him to leave and being able to pull himself out of the situation, which was one thing that absolutely repulsed most of course, especially the fair young French mademoiselle, Giselle. She had an absolutely kind and big heart, she was no were near to being afraid to show it, though she was of course bitter to Montgomery at first for his seemingly cold and empty heart. Eventually though, they did fall in love when they both had realized that he had grown to be warm when she was around and that she helped him, as well as him being able to care for her and he treated her with such utter respect and was able to see a different side of himself around her. So Montgomery was thirty and Giselle was twenty five, they married and soon moved in together in a comfortable small house. Things continued to go swimmingly, so much good after having gone through such bad. It was...however... only in due time till something bad did come along after everything going so well for him. Giselle had found out that she was pregnant with their first child, which they were both absolutely ecstatic about. Montgomery then bought a large new home for them to live in to start their new family. They had hired a family doctor and of course a small staff to start off with to keep the manor clean, for it had been a manor that he had bought. Everything was all ready, so set for the new adventure to begin, when the morning changed everything. The family doctor had caught a deadly illness himself and had sent someone else over, just in time for Giselle to have gone into labor and was to give birth that very morning. Something very wrong had happened, what that was he couldn't have been sure, only that his wife had nearly died and their son had been born still. The last they saw of either the child or the doctor was when they had both left the room at the same time, never to return.
Since then, Montgomery had become even more bitter and cold, becoming almost sort of like a shell except for around his wife. The only thing that would help him was talking about operas and asking him about what he had been learning. Only Giselle, Alphonse, and himself knew about his love for the opera still. Although he would no longer actually pursue the career, it was still a sort of hobby of his, but oh did his wife love to hear him sing. He had even began to teach her and at least it took his mind off of things for a while. She had grown to sing quite well herself, but still not quite like Monty's. It wasn't quite because it was so good as much as it was that he was able to portray such feeling into what he sang, that it quite equaled naturally. Two years later, they had asked their doctor, who had become well again just by the skin of his teeth, if they would be able to try for children again. After some time, the doctor shook his head and told them that she would not be able to have children after what had happened with their son who ruined her ability to be able to have children ever again. Giselle, being the optimist she was, tried to convince Montgomery that they could adopt but the man would just shake his head and walk away, his heart heavy and just wanting a children of their own. They ended up never adopting and continued to live in the very large home with just the two of them and the servants. Montgomery was then fifty two when a building was finished, and it was one that had somehow sparked his interest greatly. It was in fact the Opera Garnier. He was there when they had their first opera performance there. It was then it had become a second home to him and he went there whenever he could, which was when he wasn't working. He also quickly became a patron of the opera, happily investing money in the grand opera house. Of course, Montgomery wasn't exactly happy about the young woman named Carlotta, she quickly became lead of many of the performances. It wasn't that she wasn't good, in fact, she was very good, but her over acting and really... just over doing everything grated on his nerves some but he still greatly enjoyed the opera of course. And so that is what he has been continuing to do for the next seven years, watching, working, and dreaming.

Montgomery sat in his dining room, quietly drinking fresh tea from a white and pale blue tea cup. He loved and hated his home, it was much too large for him, Giselle, their two dogs, and a few servants. Another little reason why he enjoyed throwing parties, because then the house didn't feel as large, as empty. He chuckled, a little memory of when he first met his wife coming to mind. She had once told him that his heart was large and could be filled with so much love, but was instead quite vacant and cold and if he kept it up, it would surely stay that way.
Instead, he had let her in and indeed, his heart was filled much more with her in his life. Though there would of course, be at least one spot in his heart that would always be left untouched and broken. He swallowed hard and quickly put the cup of tea down, cursing himself in his head. Why could he not at least enjoy a nice cup of tea without having to think about such down casting thoughts and feelings? There was no place for them really and it was something that was in the past and to remain in the past. He stood up and strutted out of the room as a maid briskly walked in and cleaned up the bit of table. Perhaps his wife would enjoy going out for some shopping.
