It is 1882-1883 Paris, France, and both the Parisiens and visitors alike bustle about in their daily lives. In the very heart of Paris is the recently constructed Op?ra Garnier, where performers, and scene-shifters, and all sorts of people from all sorts of professions busy themselves with maintenance and with preparations for performances.
Unknown to all but a small handful (and even to most of these, only as a myth), a spectre of a man dwells below them in the cellars, watching them, musing upon them, and occasionally preying upon their fears for sport, or acting as an invisible puppet master to the company.
Who knows what terrors this mysterious "Phantom" is capable of, or what surprisingly frightening or blissfully wondrous secrets he may have in store.

((Lame name, I know XD Sorry. I was having difficulties coming up with a title…))
It was yet another day of rehearsing for Rossini’s The Barber of Seville. Monsieur Gabriel had asked her to sing a few times in order for her to get some practice in the role, but other than that, the majority of her time had been spent listening and watching… She really did hope that it wouldn’t ever come down to her actually performing the role; she wasn’t certain she actually could. She hated it here, and, if it were solely up to her, she would have left in a heartbeat. But Mamma Valerius seemed so very happy… wasn’t that what really mattered about it?
She sighed softly as she stared down blankly into her open score until she heard the sound of Monsieur Gabriel’s voice announcing that there would be a thirty minute break from rehearsal. She stood, collecting the few things that she had brought with her into the rehearsal room, and began pondering how she should spend her few minutes of escape from rehearsal. It wasn’t escape enough in her thoughts. She would have much rather preferred to go home, but even with how close she lived to the Garnier, there wasn’t enough time to go walk, and then come back I thirty minutes time. She would have had to turn around the moment she got there, and that was assuming there were absolutely no delays and that she was walking as fast as she could…

Finally! Break! Some time to herself from those imbeciles who had no idea what they were doing! Which of course left Carlotta to having to do absolutely everything! Except dance of course, everyone knew she only sang and skipped about or whatever fit her fancy in the current mood she's in. She left the rehearsal room with her nose and chin up as she strode with an arrogant and proud walk. Really, she just wanted to get this whole rehearsal over. She had practiced it enough - over and over and over again! It was time for some change, maybe practice something she didn't know - something more new. Carlotta sighed and tried to look as bored as she possibly could... she leaned up against the wall and watched as everyone was leaving the room and after having her eye being caught, she smiled deviously then turned it into a nice smile as she waltzed up to the person.
Carlotta looked down at the short blonde. What was her name again...? Cas.... Ciss.... Chris.....Christine? Ah! It was Christine... day? No.... Dallas? No.... Daae? Yes... Christine Daae, one of the new singers. Well, just barely an understudy - and shes lucky to even be that! "Señorita Daae! Its a pleasure to see a new face around here. Though of course, new faces are popping up all the time anyways." She laughed and giggled slightly and then went on to sort of introduce herself. "How long have you been working here? A week? Maybe two? Aye, then you probably already know who I am... but I'll go ahead and introduce myself just in case. I am Carlotta Corazón. Have you had any sort of training before working here?" She asked, only interested to know if there is any chance at all of her trying to upstage Carlotta. Though of course, she has heard and seen a bit of her in previous rehearsals, including this one. She has a pretty little voice, but she wanted to make sure that it stayed lost in the other voices, under her own.

Well, she supposed she might as well head to her dressing room for a few moments. After all, there was no point in sitting there in the rehearsal room, moping about and doing nothing. No sooner though had she stepped through the door frame in order to exit, than had a young woman, who didn’t appear to be much older than herself, stopped her and greeted her.
The girl painted on a smile to greet the other. She seemed vaguely familiar, though it took her a moment to place her. She had only been here for a very short while now, and was still beginning to pair names along with faces. If she recalled though, the other woman was someone of some sort of importance.
The other introduced herself as Carlotta Corzón… Carlotta Corazón… The name did seem familiar, though she couldn’t remember who she was, really. “It’s… a pleasure so meet you, Mademoiselle Corazón,” Christine said, painting her smile a bit wider in an attempt to try to cover the fact that she had no idea who the other was.
Carlotta asked her if she had trained previously, before she had come to the opera. It seemed like a silly question, really. Why would anyone audition for—much less, the management actually hire—anyone who hadn’t had any previous training? “I’ve been here about a week and a half, actually… And yes. I studied for three years at the Conservatoire National…. And before that I… had some private lessons.”

"Ah... three years at the Conservatoire National? I've heard well enough things about the Conservatoire. And of course, the ones with better voices tend to receive private lessons at some point." Carlotta said smiling, attempting a kind remark, though it wasn't anywhere true to the younger woman in front of her. Of course, she herself also received many, many private lessons from her parents to people of the operas back in Spain. Of course, she didn't need any more now, here at the Garnier. She paused for a moment and continued to speak on.
"I try to get to know as many people as I can who work at the opera, mostly the singers of course. It's also nice to be recognized and.....friendly... with people, right from the beginning. Es casi un hobby para mí." Carlotta said, her eyes slowly turning into a sort of threatening stare. "Everyone here knows me, and I hope you will get to know me as well. There's just a few minúsculo, tiny, things that you must know while working here at the opera." She continued to give the blonde a wide smile though it was a little more wicked than it had started and her eyes, once almost warm, were now almost glaring and looking for every flaw. "I wont force you to hear the little rules, but if you accidentally break one of them, you must tread carefully."

“Well… yes, it is part of the Consevatoire curriculum that all students of music take private lessons with members of the department staff… Many of them choose to take lessons outside of the coursework as well, and I daresay all took them at some point before entering le Conservatoie…”
Christine could not help but to feel the slightest bit intimidated by the other woman. Though outwardly, she was being quite polite, there was something about her tone and the manner in which she asked her questions and made the statements she did that put the girl off just a bit. Some of her words confused the poor girl. Rules?
“What sort of rules?” Christine asked hesitantly. She had the slightest feeling that she may perhaps end up regretting the question, but she had no way of knowing what exactly these rules were, unless someone told her what they were.
The woman had said a few words in another language that sounded like maybe… Spanish? It sounded remotely like Italian… She really wished that she would stop speaking like that, assuming that she could understand what she meant and was saying… Unless she did not wish for Christine to understand? She didn’t know any more. All she wanted was for this rehearsal to be finished with, and to be able to go home again. Perhaps she could stop by the church on the way. After all, it had been a couple of days now since she’d gone in to say a prayer for her father…
Right now though, she refocused her attentions on the woman before her—Mademoiselle Corazón. Perhaps all she wanted was a bit of friendly conversation? It was worth an attempt, at least…
“You never told me, Mademoiselle… How long have you been here? What sort of studying have you done before?” Perhaps talking about the other woman might distract her from asking any more questions about her ‘training.’ It was a subject that was linked to the reason why she disliked being in this place…

Christine asked her what sort of rules, at which Carlotta smirked slightly. "Simple ones. There also very easy to fallow, I promise." She said, sounding innocent. The blonde then asked her questions. As much as Carlotta may have liked about talking about herself, she'd rather know everything about the other for obvious various reasons.
"I have been here for around six years.... not that I really keep count. And I have studied at several places, mostly from other popular opera singers from Spain and of course here in France. Anyways, I don't like to really talk much about myself.... I'll go ahead and tell you the rules." She said, smiling as she quickly tried to get into the rules so they might soon get onto their own neutral ways once again. Anyways, if Christine really wanted to know about Carlotta, she needed only to ask the others.... well.... maybe Carlotta's own 'friends'.
"As I said, there are only a few rules. The first rule is probably the most important.... and that is to never ever try to upstage me." She started, smiling sweetly and she was somehow able to balance a friendly and yet very dark and commanding tone. "Stay where you are in the chorus and you may make a friend of me. Two, do not try to upset me. I doubt you would try to but it is still very important. And three, do not try for lead. I have worked very hard to get into the spot I am at. I am sure you could understand how sad I would be if someone were to get my part. Now if this is all obeyed, I promise we will stay on good terms. Es esto todo claro? Understood?" She asked while smiling sweetly.

((Geesh, Carlotta. ALL the passive-aggressive XD ALL OF IT~!))
Christine pursed her lips a little as the other young woman explained to her about these unspoken ‘rules’ of the opera house. They didn’t seem like any sort of real rules—just ones that she personally had put into place because she enjoyed drama—and not the theatrical type.
She blinked a little, her eyebrows rising in a bit of shock, when she stated that she had been there for six years now. Judging from her apparent age, she knew that must have been a lie, though she dare not outwardly state so to her. After all, she could already tell that the wrath of Hell and all of its demons would surely break loose if she did.
Instead, she merely nodded and gave a very simple reply. “Crystal clear. Believe me when I say that you will not have to worry at all about such a thing ever happening.” After all, Christine had absolutely no desire to upstage anyone, or to put anyone out of work… Her only purpose in being here was to please her dear old Mamma Valerius and nothing more.

(XDD)
Carlotta was pleased that she didn't put up a fight or a fuss about it, though anyone would be a great fool if they did. Now as long as the blonde fallowed the rules that Carlotta had set, she wouldn't have to see or hear of her much at all, besides on stage of course. She could tell that she wouldn't be having much problems from this one (Or at least that was what she was lead to believe, completely oblivious to what was to come in their future.) and in fact, she believed this would probably be the last time they would ever really need to speak to each other again.
"Wonderful! Then I hope you have an absolute merry time working here! I am sure you will do just splendidly. Now, I hope to see you around, have a lovely rest of your day." Carlotta said in a very upbeat tone, fairly opposite to the one she had been using to set out her rather important self made rules. Well really, they weren't even completely made by her as much as they were made by everyone who learned how to not get onto her bad side, and she used that to kind of help out with those who were new. After all, it wouldn't be fair for them now would it? Such as this other young woman who may later have had the thought that she could win a star lead in here and there, but now she would know that there would be Hell to pay if she did such. Carlotta smiled.

Christine gave the other young woman a painted and polite smile at her ‘well-wishes.’ She could feel the vibe that she wasn’t particularly thrilled with a new soprano there at the opera, understudying, but that really wasn’t her decision—it was the managers’. If she had her way, she wouldn’t be there at all, but she needed to be able to care for her Mamma Valerius, and it made the old woman ever so happy to know that her adopted daughter was in the opera…
“Thank you, Mademoiselle. Have a lovely rehearsal.” It was only right that at least one of them enjoy being there, and she certainly wasn’t. She gave a polite nod of her head, excusing herself, and returned to her seat in the rehearsal room. It was already half way over. Perhaps the second half would go by quickly and she’d be home before she knew it
